Daydreams and Nightmares Fashion Show

Today was my first fashion show through the school! Wow is all I can say. It was held at the Havana restaurant in New Hope. We sold over 200 advance tickets and lots more at the door. Can you say standing room only? :)

Here's a picture of myself and Essence. I did makeup and hair was done by Rae.

I was a Daydream and Essence a Nightmare.

3 weeks in and I can check fashion show off my list. NEXT!!!

Weeks 1 through 3

Before I begin, can I say how exhausted I am?!?!?!??

But I digress. However, we have been through three weeks... already! Man, time flies. But I want to sum up things we've done and learned.

Week 1-
On the first day, members of the school cooked us a pancake breakfast to welcome us. Nice, right?

We've discussed life skills, image and communication. That's impressive to me because Paul Mitchell is truly setting us Future Professionals (a positive way to address the students) to be able to function well as soon as we graduate (if not sooner!!!).

We also did manicures and waxing. Then on the mannequin heads, we practiced finger waves, pin curls and roller sets.

Week 2-
Our first color week!!!! It was amazing, except...

Insert here that I ended up in the hospital enduring kidney issues. So I missed 2 days. But no worries! I still passed my test!

We also discussed infection control. Can you saw eeewwwwww?

Week 3-
Last week we went over general anatomy and physiology.

Then the texture services- nice! Round brushing, chemical and heat curling and straightening services and the like. And we're already practicing on each other and others (more on that later).

We're halfway through the first section. This is a lot more fun than I imagined!

If you have any questions, let me know. I'll answer them as soon as I can.

Until next time!

I started school

Okay. Let me start by saying that I was excited to do this post. I shared a couple of days ago that I'm going back to school. The pro never stops learning, right?

I have been in the beauty business, officially, for over 8 years. I've been doing kitchen hair for about 15 years. (For those who don't know, kitchen hair is just that: turning your kitchen into a salon.) but there was so much I wanted to do but couldn't, because I didn't have my cosmetology license. So I decided it was time to gets' a gettin'. No time like the present, right?

Wellllll, many obstacles and challenges later, I enrolled in a Paul Mitchell school. I'm totally stoked!

I will do another post on what's in my kit. Amazing!!!!! But until next time.....

International Women's Day

So yesterday was International Women's Day. It's a celebration of women and how far we've come as well as the work that still needs to be done.

In honor of that, Mary Kay Cosmetics had a 'World Makeover Day' to pamper women, literally, worldwide. I think that is such an awesome idea!

Mary Kay's flier

Their goal was to break the world record of doing the most makeovers in one day. I'll let you know later if they succeeded.

What other companies joined in the festivities?

Until next time!

PS. Mary Kay broke the record with 58,808 makeovers worldwide. Congrats!!!

Soooooo, it's been a while....

I think the title says it all. Life has been really interesting, lately. So let me first apologize for the long period between posts. I hate going to my favorite blogs and seeing the same one from before.

That being said, I started cosmetology school. Wow, right? It's only been on my 'to do' list for over 20 years! (Did I just tell my age?) 😳

I love this.

Anyway, my thought was that these skills would supplement my skin care/ beauty business. It could be that edge to make me stand out amongst all the rest. Great idea right? I thought so.

My next post will go into detail about the school. It's my hope to post at least once a week about my experiences. But no worries, this blog will still have variety.

Until next time!
